STM with Cupping
Cupping, also known as myofascial decompression, uses negative pressure to lift and stretch the tissue. Cupping is a great technique to utilize with Soft Tissue Mobilization in areas that tend to have layer adherence. Cupping can temporarily increase the range of motion, stretch the fascial layers, and promote a more optimal tissue layer slide and glide.
Cupping is a technique that can induce a small amount of inflammation which prompts an inflammatory response. This is known as "therapeutic damage", by causing a very small amount of stress to the tissue, ushering in a healing response of the body. In areas that are already inflamed or damaged, cupping is NOT advised, as it may make the condition worse.
